A family owned venture connected to the spirit of the Murray River and Perricoota region sparked almost 25 years ago. Jayne and Gary Bares were invited to spend Christmas on the river in 1994 with friends and instantly fell in love with the lifestyle, purchased a houseboat shortly after and began their new family holiday life on the Murray River. Through the years, additional property was acquired and used for agriculture and commercial purposes.


From 2000, they were responsible for the successful construction and opening of the new Marina and Boat Ramp, an award-winning Water Treatment Plant, Telstra Mobile Tower (as there was no mobile reception prior), and Aqua Island, a loved adventure attraction hotspot for both tourists and local residents.


Their favourite part of the area is “definitely the river, its quintessentially as Australian as it gets. There is a sense of peace and calmness hard to find anywhere else.” Jayne will tell you the best part of her day is “walking the dog through the ancient Red River Gum forests” and would describe the views as “incredibly beautiful.” 


There is a small number of employees at Waterfront, and the developers put a huge emphasis on working cohesively as a team. Although very different, collectively we all have one thing in common - our love and knowledge of the local area.

At Waterfront, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact. Some examples include, heavily reducing our reliance on print advertising and moving digital where possible, sourcing produce from local suppliers - not just because we love them but to reduce our carbon footprint. We are proud to share that our Water Treatment Plant won an International Award for Ecological Sustainability - the only one in Australia to have this accolade.

We have kilometres of riverfront land adjoining hectares of native vegetation and Red Gum Forests which we consider to be the jewel in our eco-crown. A Masterplan designed to compliment Mother Nature and a natural play sanctuary - an integral part of child brain development.
